StarBrite 2016 northern region second round auditions were conducted from the 21st to 23rd of October 2016. They were held the at Harare Show Grounds at the GMB stand. All was set up and registration took place well in time for the auditions to start at around 10am. The show witnessed high participation with over 50 acts taking part covering various talents including singing, dance, comedy, poetry and even bike stunting among others. These were contestants that had qualified in preliminaries from places like Mufakose, Mbare, Mabvuku, Glen View, Kuwadzana, Highfield, Dema as well as Chikurubhi and Harare Central Prison.
On day one, the judges’ panel was graced by Brian Masendeke, a producer and vocal coach in the industry as well as Baba vaShupi who is an established artist, and Wizzy. Together they managed to select the very best acts to go through to the third round which was scheduled to take place on the 23rd of October 2016.
On the second day, we had performances from contestants from outside Harare. It was evident that StarBrite has left no stone unturned during their road shows. Contestants who were in attendance came from various part of the country, which includes Kariba, Mutare, Masvingo and Mutoko. The Judges of the day were Baba vaShupi, Patience Lusengo and Pah Chihera. It was also not easy for the judges to choose the winner since the performances were outstanding. The event ended in a crescendo as Baba vaShupi lightened up the stage leaving the audience begging for more.
On the third day, the successful contestants had to come up with a group performance. They were given a platform to work in a group, which they introduced as the opening sequence of the show. The group performance adequately covered all talents. Then there were individual performances and the contestants battled in order to get the tickets to the bootcamp. The judges for the Third day were Baba vaShupi, Wizzy, Patience Lusengo and Takura Shonai. Takura entertained the contestants by giving them a brilliant performance, which inspires a lot. The winners were full of joy and great anticipation for boot camp as they got their tickets. 62 contestants made it to the boot camp, 44 0f them where in the singing category and 18 were in non-singing category.
We would like to thank the GMB for making the event a success, by opening their venue. Special thanks to our Judges for the job well done and above all congratulations to our winners.
