MUTARE HOSTS STARBRITE SEMIFINALS
Zimbabwe’s popular talent search program: StarBrite is holding its semi-finals in Mutare for Season 6. With auditions carried out in various parts of the country which also included the street kids’ auditions and new areas like Domboshava, Shurugwi, Hwedza, Rusape, Karoi and the conclusion of the subsequent regional boot-camps, the show has shifted its focus to the Semis.
StarBrite needs no introduction, as the original talent search reality show in Zimbabwe it has been providing platform for Zimbabwe talent for over 25 years having been formed and aired on ZTV in the early 1990s. It is a well-regarded talent search platform that has strong links across the media and entertainment communities including strategic alliances with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and many media platforms across the country. It’s the most popular program on television and has continued to attract viewers over the years. However, StarBrite has not been spared by the economic hardships currently obtaining in Zimbabwe.
The semi-finals will be held at the imposing Golden Peacock hotelin Mutare from the 8th to the 9th of December 2017. The contestants are drawn from all the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe and for the first time this year the producers are bringing the regional finalists together. The Semi-finals will take 2 days.
Interestingly since 2013StarBrite has worked with ZPS to afford inmates with talents on the platform. Inmates from Mazowe, Bindura, Marondera and Khami Prisons were auditioned adding the list which included Harare central and Chikurubi prisons. The new dispensation for the ZPS is Prisons are not for punishing only but this is an example of rehabilitative activities which prepares the inmates for eventual reintegration into the society. Since the partnership, over 1000 inmates have auditioned with some winning in the various categories.
Transport to Mutare is being provided by NRZ in a new working relationship between the two organisations.
The 2017 competition season has provided some immense headaches thus for the judges to a high level of quality in the acts.Semi-finalshave a total of 60 acts in different categories and will produce finalists in the following categories:
a) 11 singers
b) 3 poets
c) 3 dancehall artists
d) 3 dancers
e) 3 juniors
The above acts will battle it out in the finals backed by a live band. Band led rehearsals are seen as an introduction to the real world for the contestants.
The past finals have been a huge success which also featured a fashion show which proved popular. This year’s finals just like 2016 will be held in the City of Kings by popular demand. Each year a legend is honoured. Lovemore Majaivana is the legend of choice where the 1st night at the finals will be dedicated to his indelible contribution to the music industry. All the finalists’ first performance will be themed around Majaivana.
