Ratidzo Audrey Mpeswe - Singing Category

Ratidzo Audrey Mpeswe was born on the 30th May 2002 in Mataga, Midlands Province. As a 10 year old child, Ratidzo realized her passion for music something that her parents ascribed to the fact that when she was still in her mothers’ womb, her parents would attend live musical shows, especially when Andy Brown was performing.

Secretly, she started writing songs and most of them where motivated by the growing pains of a little girl’s grievances she had like every other normal little girl. Before long, Ratidzo would go on to sing in the school choir and church in front of a lot of congregants, as her talented started budding. People would pay attention to the little girl and believe that was the foundation of greater things to come.

Her time at Loreto high School saw her sharpening her musical prowess as she took up Music as her practical subject and managed to excel as one of the top students in the classroom.

The practical subject proved critical in her career as she is now a master at playing ‘Mbira’ and ‘Marimba’, while she also learnt how to play the basic guitar later on.

Her melodious voice saw her being given the role among the lead singers in the school choir, as she was one of the best Altos school. All these roles at school enabled me to engage with the Schools' Edutainment show in 2016, where she excelled as she managed to go all the way amongst the finest of the crop as she reached the finals.

Recently, she participated at the popular StarBrite competition in Kwekwe to show the world the real Ratidzo.

The young diva likes to keep to herself and listening to music, while she also takes time for quiet, personal moments of reflecting on her path. She is also into photography.

Her favourite local artist is Tamy Moyo, as she sees her as a great example to young people who are afraid to come out and present their art for change in industry and because the lyrical content in her songs have managed to capture the hearts of many insecure people for example songs like“Beautiful” (Ndozvandiri) and Ndibereke.

On the international scene, Ratidzo likes Zahara because she is an artist who sings from the heart, retelling the story of her life to the listeners, while also remaining original and the unique taste of life in her songs, through the full involvement of indigenous African style.
