I am Itai Sekeremo. I was born on the 10th of October 1988 in Gweru. I attended Takunda Primary School and Mkoba 3 High School where I experienced the harsh realities of life as faced by many Zimbabweans who earn a little and are of humble background.
My lived realities and subsequent theoretical underpinnings of ethnomusicology which I gained during my studies for a Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Music and Musicology at Midlands State University influence my poetry.
I have an understanding that performance art has always been used in our community to sanction deviant behaviors as well as to champion sublime societal living. My poetry strives to be a mirror image characteristic of the Zimbabwean people who are always happy and raring to go even in the midst of challenges. Thus my poetry is what is called “ndyaringo’ in the Shona language.
