It’s been a long journey with bumps and bruises along the way but we are still standing shining. It was a journey from the preliminaries, 2nd & 3rd rounds, boot camp and now the competition is coming to an end. StarBrite semi-finals were held on the 14th of December 2016 at Rainbow park lane movie theatre. The event was packed with great displays of talent, it proved that we are truly blessed with talent in our beautiful country of Zimbabwe; the event showcased amazing performances from different categories; singers, poets, dancers, and special art category with magic tricks that left the audience in awe.
The show commenced at 2pm, every contestants was waiting anxiously for this golden opportunity. Contestants were dressed to suit their personalities and to compliment their acts. They had been given challenging task for each category, and they worked for so hard to fighting it out. Each category was given a performance from the 80s and was asked to merge it with something which is current era. The semis indeed were filled with an electrifying atmosphere, the audience was amazing and engaging and the setup was awesome. Our judge’s panel was graced by Munyaradzi Gunduza, Lucy Bill, Tinashe Muza, Peace Ndlovu, and Mr Davidson.
We did not envy the judges because surely they had a tough task in choosing the winners, contestant gave a scintillating performances. We had 49 acts, the quality of talent had certainly improved bringing a fierce element of competitiveness which obviously was enormous, not only for the show but the industry in general. It proved that the contestant had gone through a process from the preliminaries to the semi-final; StarBrite has done an amazing job discovering, nurturing talents and exposing the stars to the world this year.
The Starbrite winner from the class of 2012 Bryan Kadengu provided entertainment. He performed his hit song “heavy machine” and his winning song for the 2012 finals, “Marunjeya.” Baba vaShupi did not only stand as a judge only but he als cracked the stage, leaving the contestants and audience asking for more.
The contestants came, they have given their best it’s been exhilarating, but moment of truth came, nerves and emotions had to be pulled as results were being announced. It was heartbreaking for those that were eliminated, it was sad that some had to leave and good-bye it really was. Most, if not all of the ones who had to go did not expect it at all. We want to congratulate all the contestants that have made it so far and making it this far. We also want to remind those who had to leave the competition that this is not the end, it is just the beginning.
StarBrite It’s your Time to Shine!!!
