The StarBrite family and all its affiliates at large would like to express our most heartfelt condolences to the Mtukudzi family, the music fraternity and indeed the nation of Zimbabwe. We have lost a father, a brother, a mentor, a leader, a hero among heroes.
Dr. Mtukudzi was the first ever StarBrite Patron and worked with several StarBrite winners as a mentor. In 2012 StarBrite saw it befitting to honor this award-winning legend with the honor of being their Patron and it was a great opportunity and honor to the contestants to have one on one moments with the renowned musician of Zimbabwe at Pakare Paye Arts Centre. All the 2012 finalists were tasked to choose a song from the legend and perform with the StarBrite band and be judged on it. He frequently mentored StarBrite winners, awarded recording contracts to several winners and allowed StarBrite to conduct auditions at Pakare Paye in Norton. His role and contribution to StarBrite and the arts industry cannot be measured.
StarBrite family will always cherish and hold dearly memories shared over the years and consider ourselves truly a fortunateto have been mentored Tuku. Samanyanga’s, as he was affectionately known, immense contribution to the discovering and nurturing of raw talent will always be cherished.
Oliver Mtukudzi left a void that is hard to fill, his distinct voice will always be missed by many, in deed a giant has fallen and we will continue to celebrate the life and music of this humble and brave activist who was an internationally recognized icon in the music industry of Zimbabwe. Go well SamanyangaREST IN PEACE
