Being one of the StarBrite finalists has brought so much happiness in my life as it has made me grow as an artist. The things i have learnt are tremendously helpful and have made me a better artist. My performance skills have changed so much, my confidence has boosted even more.
When I auditioned at StarBrite I honestly did not think it would have all these benefits that I got. It is rare to go to a place and just be given the kind of knowledge they gave us on a silver platter without having to pay for it. The kind of honor and privilege of having someone as respectable and important as Mr Rabson Shumba coming to encourage you to see life in a better perspective and telling you how you can actually overcome certain fears, feelings and bad experiences you probably have gone through in life generally is priceless and a dream come true.
We had someone as neat as Ms Nyerende-Chimuka who came to teach us about hygiene. How you should carry yourself especially as an artist, how you should treat yourself, how important it is to watch what you eat and drink especially encouraging us to drink water every day and exercise ,was very educational. I was actually amazed in knowing that it is very vital to use more than one towel for bathing as strange as it sounds, but it is very hygienic.
The director of music crossroads, Mrs. Zambuko, initiated on the importance of social media and how we should keep our face book pages creative in order to maintain popularity as an artist and make contacts. She emphasized on the importance of learning music, how important it is to learn to read music as you might collaborate with an international artist and you end up facing a situation whereby you are asked to send your music arrangement in notes.
We also got the privilege of meeting our very own local artists Hope Masike, Cynthia Mare and Cindy Munyavi, who graced us with performances and their experiences in the music industry citing that it is not easy but you have to be patient and passionate and work hard no matter what.
Experiences on the 20th and 21st of November are my most favorite especially when i was doing my music video. The challenging part was when I wanted to climb the big hill, and I finally managed to do it as my song talks about trials and tribulations. One of my memorable experiences was when we had to wake up and jog which I am not used to but I ended up enjoying it and surprisingly i now keep doing it as I learnt that it stimulates the mind and it is good to start a day with an active mind.
There were moments during rehearsals when i felt like i was failing to sing, and my songs were not coming out well, but i kept on pushing till it got better, and i learnt a vital lesson that practice makes perfect.
The food was great. Thank you to the cooks. Other benefits of Boot camp comprise a cocktail of confidence, to fight the feeling of being intimidated by others as you can only make yourself better If you patients and believe in yourself. Additionally attitude is also vital; you have to maintain a good attitude to have a good relationship with people. Moreover time is money and money is time. Skills and knowledge are all surrounded by time and they contribute to your success. Punctuality all goes back to time and as an artist it is important to keep time. It makes you a better artist. Lastly hygiene gives some sort of presence in you as an artist. Everyone wants to work with a clean artist.
Thank you.
